Meet Amanpreet Wadhwa – Calgary Individual and Couples Counsellor

My name is Amanpreet Wadhwa, and I’m a Registered Calgary-based individual and couples counsellor offering therapy that’s relational, reflective, and rooted in lived experience.
My Story
Before becoming a therapist, I spent nearly two decades in the field of computer science – working, parenting, and trying to hold everything together while slowly realizing something inside me was unraveling.
From the outside, things looked fine. But inwardly, I felt a deep thinning of meaning, connection, and vitality. Like many, I was fulfilling roles – professional, spouse, parent – without the inner room to process, reflect, or recalibrate. Eventually, I turned to counselling for myself. That decision didn’t fix everything, but it began something more important: a return to what truly matters.
A Turning Point
Therapy didn’t offer quick answers – it offered a space where slow, meaningful change could take root. That experience not only supported my personal growth, but reshaped my path entirely. I came to value what is unhurried, what is true. Therapy became more than support – it became a lens through which I view life, healing, and human connection.
This led me to train as a therapist, bringing together my personal healing journey, professional training, and a long-standing curiosity about how people relate, adapt, and grow over time.
My Approach to Counselling
I believe that change begins with awareness. Whether you’re facing uncertainty, conflict, or emotional depletion, therapy offers a place to gently begin untangling what’s been difficult – and to move toward something more honest, resilient, and grounded.
In my work, I integrate depth psychology, relational understanding, and compassionate inquiry. Here’s what that looks like across different services I offer:
- Individual Counselling: We explore underlying patterns, early relationships, internalized beliefs, and how they’ve shaped your current experience. Our work brings language to what’s been long held or unspoken – moving toward clarity and change.
- Couples Counselling: Using the Relational Life Therapy (RLT) approach, I help partners understand the deeper roots of their dynamics. We look at relational patterns, early attachment, and cultural narratives, while building relational accountability and new skills for intimacy and communication.
Whether through dialogue or stillness, my goal is to create a space where healing becomes possible – in whatever form it needs to take for you.
Who I Work With
I work with adults – individuals and couples – who are seeking more than a quick fix. You might be feeling stuck, lost, overwhelmed, or quietly resigned. Maybe you’ve tried coping on your own, and now you’re ready for something deeper.
If you’re interested in a counselling process that is reflective, challenging, and gently transformative, you’ll likely resonate with my approach. I don’t promise transformation – but I offer a consistent place for honest, meaningful work. Over time, this can foster greater resilience, deeper self-awareness, and more fulfilling relationships.
Beginning the Process
Starting therapy isn’t easy – and yet if you’re reading this, something in you may already be ready. Ready to pause, to reflect, to face what’s been long set aside.
I invite you to explore the services I offer, or reach out directly if you’d like to begin a conversation. You don’t have to do this alone. Whether you’re seeking individual therapy or couples counselling, I’m here to support you.
