Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy

Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about individual and couples therapy. If you’re curious to know more or have additional questions, I’d be happy to hear from you. Call – 403-921-0512 or email: amanwadhwa@me.com
What happens in an individual therapy session?
We explore the concerns that bring you in – perhaps emotional fatigue, a longstanding sense of dissatisfaction, or a recent life event that has left you unsettled. Together, we’ll examine your patterns, your history, and the ways you’ve learned to adapt. Over time, these sessions become a space where deeper understanding can emerge and new choices can be made.
How long does therapy usually take?
There’s no set timeline. Therapy moves at the pace of your insight and readiness. Some come with a clear concern and leave after a few sessions. Others stay longer, choosing to work through complex issues that unfold over time. What matters is that the work is honest, deliberate, and rooted in your desire for change.
What can couples counselling help with?
Couples therapy addresses the recurring patterns that shape your relationship. We work with conflict, distance, broken trust, and cultural or intergenerational tensions. Using a Relational Life Therapy (RLT) approach, we identify how these patterns were formed, examine their roots in family and culture, and practice new ways of engaging – both with your partner and with yourself.
What is the Relational Life Therapy (RLT) approach?
RLT understands that couples often bring old injuries and learned defenses into the present. It looks at origin stories – what each partner learned about closeness, conflict, and care – and then asks: how do we live relationally now? It involves direct work on the dynamics, structured skill-building, and accountability for change.
What does the first session look like?
The initial session is part conversation, part inquiry. We’ll gather a history – not just of events, but of how you’ve come to understand yourself and the world. For couples, we explore how the partnership formed, what the current difficulties are, and how each of you makes sense of them. It’s the beginning of the therapeutic alliance.
How many sessions will we need?
That depends on your concerns and goals. For some, a few sessions bring clarity. For others, deeper work calls for ongoing sessions. We’ll revisit your progress and needs regularly.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. Many clients find online sessions convenient and effective, especially with busy schedules or geographical limitations. Confidentiality and depth are maintained, whether in person or online.
What languages do you offer therapy in?
Therapy is available in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu. Sessions can be conducted in the language that feels most natural and expressive for you.
What are your fees?
- Individual Therapy: $120 per 60-minute session
- Couples Therapy: $135 per 60-minute session. Sessions are 90 minutes long.
Why the name “Golden Leaf Therapy”?
The golden leaf represents transformation. Like a leaf in autumn – past its peak yet still offering beauty – it speaks to the dignity of aging, the possibility of renewal, and the quiet hope that change brings. Therapy, too, helps us shed what no longer serves, while nourishing what still wants to grow.
